John Frederick Talo was born in Christie, the son of wealthy chemist Harald Conradtaulo (1815 to 1881) and Nicoline (“Nina”) Louise Monk (1821-1894). Tao Luo educated at the Art Institute of Copenhagen from 1870 to 1872, and from 1873 to 1875 he and Hans Goode in art at the Baden school in Karlsruhe.
Luo Tao is one of the earliest artists in the painting of Skagen in Northern Jutland, soon became a famous painter Skagen. He went there in 1879 with his friend Christian Krohg who advised him to spend the summer and autumn there. They arrived from a small boat in Thaulow, Norway.
